You Just Made My Day - © 1979 E tuning 1/6/79 Juri St SF
(During our fabulous 10 month “El Dorado “ trip with Joe, staying in San Franciso pursuing my obsession to be “nearly famous” I was reseaching how to make an album, writing lots of songs, seeking out places to play …went to auditon at the Purple Onion (I think) some pretty well known folkies had played there in its heyday…I really did wear that 3 piece corderoy suit , played a couple of my tunes and the manager said that’s nice, but do you know any well known tunes by other people because people come in here to have a drink, and they want ot hear music they know …I really just wanted to promote my own tunes , said thanks ,headed to the bus and sat down dejectedly and….
Well I was bussing on downtown, felt like I was going nowhere,
When a lady turned around to me, and smilingly declared-
She said- You look lovely, in that 3 piece corderoy (and I did!)
I replied instantly - You have cheared this needy boy!
Chorus - (Don’t you know that you-)
You just made my day
You just made my day- Thank you very much!
You just made my day- You must made my day!
Well pursue your daily regimen -be loving all the way-
A good word , a smile,a helping hand-
Will just make somebody’s day /say-
Chorus..You just made my day -with your very touch
-thank you oh so much-
-thanks I needed that
You just made my day!
So what - no company/organization answered my pitch for that song for its anthem….I played it with SeaBright and so many times for a songwriting exemplar for my students, with Rick and Kris at the Christmas Visiting Musicians Association …from nursing homes to ,hospital rooms ,classrooms, shelters, living rooms, parties -it’s a happy sing-a-long with a basic loving message , the more guitars and voices the better!
