Going Back G C Chorus C D G
An early song, when I was starting to play with Buffalo, Dave Haletky…it was really exciting to write and have others add their parts…a country type “message “ song reflecting on revisiting where I had grown up, started with a Sunday morning ride down the Neck…the school, the church, home …
Riding on a Sunday morning , up ahead without a warning round the bend ,
I’m going back again.
To a land of white and black that I left a long way back, where everything was this or that.
\but nothing more- nothing more.
There’s the school I used to go to - how much truth has really shown though all those days , and learning ways?
Years of duty and of trust , do the things you know you must,
But don’t ask why- just don’t ask why.
Chorus- C D G
Funny how things change with time
Like your life and mine.
Everything looks so much smaller, could it be that I’m much taller than before-
I closed that door?
There’s the church and there’s the steeple, open up there’s fewer people, that before-
They’ve all asked for more.
I used to go there quite a lot, until I found that what I sought,
Just wasn’t there -if it was anywhere.
Chorus-
There’s the path long overgrown , that I used to walk alone -
More memories keep coming back to me…
There’s the house I used to live in, home of silence and of giving-
Very strange there nothing’s changed….nothing’s changed.
Chorus-
Funny how things change with time,
Like your life and mine-
Days more distant than our dreams, are much closer than they seem-
They’re just as far as who we are….
