A companion song - for Eleanor Hobbs with happy and grateful childhood memories …so many times I would run from my house #16 Peterson to Bobby’s #17 right across the street - so close that we had even tried the string and tin can telephone between upstairs bedrooms- I don’t think we made it work, but we tried…up the driveway where we used to shoot baskets on the hoop on their garage, on the right was the side door on a big spring which was always open with a small set of stairs going down to Archie‘s cellar workshop with the pin up calendars, and a set leading up to the kitchen door at the top …I’d yank it open and call up “Hi-yo ,Bobby!” and Eleanor would almost always answer “come on in”…Archie died of a heart attack so young before 50...some time later in 76 Bob and I had a musical reunion, SeaBright developed and in 78 Cyndy and I and Joe were going on our trip, SeaBright played Club Passim for a 2nd time just before we were going and I sang this song for Eleanor ,maybe the only time ever …
Eleanor (7/78 ) Capo +3 D finger progression
Eleanor was the lady next door.
The mother of my best friend,
When I’d call ,she’d always say-
“It’s open, come on in!”
Chorus
Well the years they come and the years they go
And the doors open and close
Now Eleanor comes to hear us sing,
And she sits in the front row…
Break
Chorus
Well the years they come and the years they go,
And the doors open and close.
Now Eleanor smiles to hear us sing,
With a smile as warm as her home sweet home-
With a smileas warm as her home sweet home…
