San Antone
Written during our RV visit in 78 ,crossing Texas from Houston I was really taken with San Antonio- the Alamo,Paseo del Rio, some tower of note , the Institute of Texan Cultures which highlighted how folks from all around the world made/make a home here…I sent the song to the Mayor at some point suggesting it as a theme song of sorts…and did not hear back -maybe natives do not like others to call their city a nickname like Frisco (but there’s a recurrent theme there- see the next tune Jamaica Getaway…) Cyndy and I returned in 2009 and had a wonderful experience with the 2nd annual Illumination festival of song,dance- all free in on stages along Alamo Street with all kinds of folks, over 100,000 and no problems! I just like this little song, how simply it captured the essence for me.
San Antone 11/29/78 D A G
Deep in the heart of Texas
Just west of a spaceman’s dream,
Is the loveliest little big city
Travelers ever seen.
With a monument to freedom,
And a tower to the sky,
And a river running through it,
To revive you when you’re dry-
Chorus
San Antone,
You’ve got an easy pace.
San Antone-
You/ve got style and grace.
An oasis on the road,
Stay a while in San Antone.
Repeat first verse
San Antone-
You give each man his due.
San Antone -
He’ll give it back to you.
Folks from all around the globe
Make a home in San Antone
(if you’re tired from the road
Spend a while in San Antone! )
