He Comes with the Morning
(Capo + 3 full C finger pick )
A sincere if poetically licensed reflection of on my Inner child revisited set in our neighborhood -after watching Stanley Johnson and grandchild playing at the water’s edge ; performed with Debbie and Hobbsie this was very moving and evocative ,especially the last stanza…
He comes with the morning when the sun lies on the ocean
And he beckons you to follow with his two arms held wide open.
Where the stranger leads you follow ,for he holds some secret for you,
Like a shadow or a memory and you think it might mean freedom.
And he leads you to the islands over years of tranquil silence,
And he leaves you there to wonder about your chances and the distance.
When you find you your way back inland he is dawning time’s disguises,
He is changing with the seasons ,growing older but no wiser.
He comes back in the evening then the night breeze is blowing,
And he whispers deep inside you that you really used to know him,
And he leads you down a dark path that’s all loneliness and longing
Past a love that’s lost its meaning to another that has found you.
And he lies before the sunset when the sea is all afire
He says you know me don’t you ; I’m the child you left behind you.
In the dawn of your becoming , in the eve of your surrender
I’m the child and I’m the father ; I remain with you forever.
There’s a child and an old man,
They dance before the water-
Their voices filled with laughter ,
And the life that flows between them,
And the life that flows between them
And the life that flows between them…
