The Songs I Never Sang for You

Songs I Never Sang For You- (D progression )
Based loosely on poet Emily Dickenson upon whose death many unpublicized verses were uncovered in her home…and a reference to Amy Lowell’s “Patterns”

The lady died this morning, the news is all around,
The house was filled with letters and poems that were found…

They say that she once had a lover, dancing and laughter once filled her home.
He left her for another and since she’s lived all alone.

Chorus -
Words lie still on pages,
Speak of hopes silence will keep.
Lines that filled a lifetime-
Dreams she dreamed , only in sleep, only in sleep.

She wrote of brockade and patterns .
She wove of pain and death and fear,
Love letters tied with ribbbon,
Kept hidden like her tears.

Chorus -

The lady died this morning; they found a last note too.
With all of the letters and poems it said-
These are the songs I never sang for you,
These are the gifts I leave to you.
Chorus - and repeat last 2 lines …
